You’ve probably read about the Women’s Voices Theater Festival for months now. First there was the news in American Theatre Magazine, no less, that 50 Washington, DC area theaters banded together to produce work by women playwrights. How exciting and extraordinary. Then, First Lady Michelle Obama was named as the festival’s chair. What a coup to have such a dynamic, thoughtful woman engaged with this wonderful program. And, Ms. Obama is a theater lover too.
While most productions run in September and October, a few open today (August 12th) in our Capitol. Here’s a DC Theatre Scene interview with Kathleen Akerley, whose Bones and Whispers and Night Falls on the Blue Planet, are part of the festival.
Works by Women will cover the festival more in depth in the coming months, and we plan to make a trip or two to Washington, DC to catch some of the festival. Hope you will too.
