Supporting creative work by women
Here are a couple of announcements that I think you will find interesting.
After flirting with a Broadway production last season, Lisa D’Amour‘s highly acclaimed play Detroit will enjoy a limited engagement at Playwrights Horizons August 24th through October 7th. Directed by Anne Kauffman, the play stars John Cullum, Darren Pettie, Amy Ryan, David Schwimmer and Sarah Sokolovic, whom Works by Women interviewed earlier this year.
I’ve enjoyed reading Ari Roth’s (Artistic Director of Washington, D.C.’s Theater) posts on women in theater and how his thinking has evolved regarding gender equity on the stage. In the post I’ve quoted below, you can voice your opinion on why women’s voices are important in theatre.
In connection with the THEATER J production of Annie Baker’s BODY AWARENESS, Theater J is asking women to submit a portrait along with a brief sentence answering the above question.
About the portrait: This can be whatever encapsulates YOU. Is it the picture where you feel at your best? An image of your cat? Your headshot? A photo of your family? You decide.

Forward this to the women whose voices you value
