Last night, the New York Innovative Theatre Awards rocked The Great Hall at Cooper Union with a fantastic ceremony hosted by the talented and lovely Lisa Kron. The awards celebrate indie theater by recognizing achievement in a variety of disciplines, ranging from Outstanding Production of a Play to Innovative Design Award to Outstanding Stage Manager. The organization also bestows honorary awards, lauding Artistic Achievement (Lanford Wilson), Stewardship (Dixon Place) and Caffe Cino Award to a theater company (New York Neo-Futurists).
Presenters included Dylan and Becky Baker, Lucy Thurber, Basil Twist and Debra Monk.

Works by Women is thrilled that Crystal Skillman won for Outstanding Full-Length Script for The Vigil, or the Guided Cradle, produced by The Brick and Impetuous Theater Group. We took a group to see the play earlier this summer at the Brick. It feels great supporting women’s work, and we’re ecstatic when the work is also recognized in larger circles. Congrats to Crystal for the award and for creating a thought-provoking play about torture. One that we still talk about.
